Day 01: Delhi – Shimla (380 kms / 10 hrs)

For those who love the hustle-bustle of the Mall Road and the action at the Ridge, Shimla is the place to be with its lingering echoes of a bygone era. It evokes a sense of nostalgia with its pretty gabled cottages, half-timbered buildings and old churches. Arrive in Shimla in the evening by car. On arrival transfer to the hotel. In the evening, enjoy the facilities at the resort and walks around the premises. Overnight stay at Shimla.

Shimla, the capital city of Himachal Pradesh, is a well known summer retreat and ideal spot for adventure sports. Also referred to as the ‘Queen of Hills’ by the British ,this beautiful hill town of Shimla lies in the lap of nature surrounded by pine, rhododendron and oak trees. Shimla is situated in the north-west Himalayas at an average altitude of 2,205 metres. The town is famous for its grand old buildings styled in tudorbethan and neo- gothic architecture dating from the colonial era. Shimla is popular for its salubrious climate and draws a large number of people from around the world who indulge in nature treks, trout fishing, skiing and golf. A perfect juxtaposition of comfort, safety and serenity.

Day 02: Shimla local sightseeing

After breakfast explore the old colonial buildings and enjoy a half day city tour visiting the Indian Institute Of Advanced Studies, the Shimla State Museum, Sankat Mochan Temple and Jakhu temple. Evening free to stroll in the famous shopping place of Shimla town - The Mall & The Ridge. Overnight stay at hotel.

Indian Institute Of Advanced Study (IIAS) is a prominent research institute in Shimla set up by the Ministry of Education ,Government of India in 1964- 1965.Originally this was the residence of Lord Dufferin, the Viceroy of India from 1884-1888 and was called the Vice Regal Lodge. After India’s Independence, this building was renamed Rashtrapati Niwas and was used as the summer retreat for the President of India. Due to neglect, Dr. S Radhakrishnan decided to turn it into a centre of higher learning. The library here has a collection of precious and priceless books dating back to the British times.

The Shimla State Museum displays the huge heritage wealth of Himachal Pradesh in the form of magnificent paintings, sculptures, coins, tribal dolls, costumes, ancient weapons, arms and ammunitions, handicrafts, textiles and jewellery. Some of the collections dates back to the pre-historic ages. The State Museum is a huge colonial building with sprawling gardens and was established in 1974. It also houses a library with historical books and manuscripts.

The Sankat Mochan Temple is a famous temple dedicated to Lord Hanuman and is located 5 km away from the beautiful hill station Shimla. The mist covered mountains around the temple provides a serene atmosphere where one can meditate and enjoy the calm and peaceful surroundings. Around the 1950’s Baba Neeb Karori Ji Maharaj discovered this perfect spot for meditation after staying there for a while and he desired that a temple dedicated to Lord Hanuman should be built here. Baba's faithful devotees included the governor of Himachal Pradesh, who along with Bhagvan Sahai took up the task of fulfilling their Guru's wish. Finally on the 21st of June 1966, the temple was sanctified. Initially the temple was small but due to a large influx of devotees, the temple now covers a huge area. The temple was dedicated mainly to Lord Hanuman, though now one finds idols of Lord Rama, Shiva and Ganesha in separate complexes. There is a special temple made for Baba Neeb Karori Ji Maharaj also. The temple dedicated to Lord Ganesha has been built in the South Indian style of architecture and is worth visiting.

The Jakhu Temple is located at the top of the famous Jakhu Hill in Shimla .The temple is 2.5 km from the Ridge and is located at a height of 8,000 feet above sea level. This ancient temple is dedicated to the Hindu deity Hanuman. The panoramic views that surround the beautiful temple is absolutely breathtaking. Legend has it that when Rama’s brother Lakshmana was injured while fighting the battle with the demon king Ravana, he needed the Sanjeevani herb to cure him. So Hanuman flew to the Himalayas and dug up the entire mountain. When Lakshmana was cured, Hanuman returned the mountain to the original site and rested on top of the Jakhu hill. The temple is built around the place that is supposed to have the footprints of Hanuman. This temple is a highly revered religious place of Shimla and devotees throng in huge numbers to pray here. The temple is also home to countless playful monkeys who wait to be fed by the visitors.

The Mall is the main shopping street with some of the best bargains for handicrafts, woodwork, shawls, woollens, Tibetan carpets and jewellery .The mall is dotted with many restaurants, clubs, bars, banks and a good place for just a stroll and meeting up with everyone.

Day 03: Shimla – Kufri – Naldehra – Shimla

Head off early morning upto Naldehra, which is beyond Kufri from where you can see the views of the Himalayas. Enjoy a full day excursion visiting Kufri and Naldehra.

Kufri is at a height of 8250 feet, famous for its ski-slopes and fine views of the deep valleys and thick forests. Kufri has a Himalayan Wild Life Zoo which hosts rare antelopes, felines and birds including the Himalayan Monal, the State Bird of Himachal Pradesh. During winter a meandering path through the potato plantations turns into a popular Ski track.

Naldehra is well known for its world famous golf course and is located at a distance of 22 km from Shimla at an altitude of 2,200 metres. The golf course was built under the supervision of Lord Curzon, the Viceroy of India in the early 1900s. He was so captivated by the beauty of the place, he named his daughter Alexandra Naldehra. Now established as one of the oldest and most scenic golf courses in the country, the Naldehra golf course has a par 68, 18-hole course with 16 greens and 18 tees and has a design reminiscent of the Scottish links courses.
